Simply state that you are requesting a fire safety check and they will be able to arrange this for you. Depending on the demand that the fire service has at the time, the waiting time for these checks can vary. There is no charge made for this service at the current time and they will fit smoke alarms free of charge where required.
If you are disabled and changes are needed to your home to enable you to continue living there, then you may be entitled to a grant from your local council. The grant can be used for types of work including:
An Occupational Therapist will assess your circumstances and suggest the adaptations required. You can obtain an application form from the housing or environmental health department of your local council.
Please note it is important that you apply for the grant before you begin any work. The maximum grant amount payable in England is £30,000 and this may be paid in instalments or as a full payment when the work has been completed.

Rothercare is a telephone-based system which you can use to summon help, call assistance, or give you reassurance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The main role of the Rothercare service is to obtain help for an elderly or disabled person when an emergency arises. Rothercare is connected to a control centre where there is always a control operator on duty to respond immediately. This operator is also supported by a mobile response service.
